Have you ever been walking along the South Bank Parklands, crossing the Story Bridge, or watching the sunset from Mount Coot-tha, only to suddenly feel as though you had experienced that exact moment before? It’s a strange sensation that many people across Brisbane have experienced—a feeling that you’ve somehow already lived the moment you’re in. South Bank, the Brisbane River, and landmarks such as the Story Bridge and Mount Coot-tha are among the city’s most recognisable places, making them settings where many locals pause, reflect, and notice experiences like déjà vu.

That mysterious feeling is known as déjà vu, a French phrase meaning “already seen.”

It’s an experience that has fascinated people for centuries. Scientists have explored neurological explanations, while many spiritual traditions believe déjà vu may offer a glimpse into something much deeper.

Could it be a sign from the Universe? A reminder from your soul? Or simply your intuition quietly telling you that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be?

What Is Déjà Vu?

Déjà vu is the powerful sensation that a current moment has already happened, even though logic tells you it hasn’t.

For most people, it lasts only a few seconds.

Yet during those brief moments, time seems to stand still. Everything feels strangely familiar, as though life has momentarily repeated itself.

Although science suggests déjà vu may result from the brain processing information slightly out of sequence, many people feel there is something more profound happening.

Spiritually, déjà vu often feels less like a mistake—and more like a message.

A Gentle Nudge from the Universe

Many spiritual teachers believe déjà vu occurs when your life is aligning with the path your soul intended to follow.

Rather than predicting the future, it may simply be the Universe quietly whispering:

“You’re exactly where you need to be.”

It doesn’t necessarily mean life will suddenly become easy.

Instead, it can serve as reassurance that, despite uncertainty or challenges, you are moving in the direction your soul is meant to experience.

Sometimes we spend so much time questioning our decisions that we overlook the subtle signs encouraging us to trust ourselves.

Déjà vu may be one of those signs.
