St. Patrick’s Day is not traditionally associated with romantic love. But don’t miss out on an opportunity to turn this celebration into a memorable day for that special person in your life. Here are a few ideas about how to do that.
Events: Plan something special to do together.
•Pack up a picnic and head to a park. While you’re there, spend time searching for 4 leaf clovers. Now we know that in many areas this might mean searching under snow. If that is the case where you are, go to the location ahead of time and spray paint some clovers on the snow for your lover to find. (Legend says each leaf of the clover means something: first is hope, second is for faith, the third for love, and fourth for luck.)
•Surprise your sweetheart with a serenade of Irish tunes or find someone else to do so.
•Take your love to a St. Patrick’s Day parade – remember to wear green to avoid being pinched!
•How about learning to dance like the Irish? You can make arrangements to do this on St. Patrick’s Day or give a Gift Certificate for future lessons.
•If you prefer a cozy night at home, prepare a green-themed meal and rent an Irish-themed movie to watch together after dinner.
•Not a cook? Take your sweetheart to an Irish pub for traditional Irish food, green beer and live music.
•If the weather doesn’t permit an outdoor search for 4 leaf clovers, present your sweetheart with a shamrock lapel pin as a promise to go “4-Leaf Clover Hunting” when the weather changes.
•Give the gift of green jewelry – something with emerald or jade would be perfect.
•Make or buy Irish cookies or Irish themed candy — leprechauns, coins and shamrocks are some shapes to consider.
•If your sweetheart enjoys time in the kitchen, present them with an Irish-themed cookbook .
•Send green flowers. Some that can be mixed with white flowers are carnations, button poms, green roses and lilies. Ask your florist for other ideas.
•Give romantic or historical books set in Ireland.
•Give a CD of Irish love songs (or sing them yourself!).
This list is just a start – ignite your imagination and come up with more ideas. If you think of other things to add to the list and are willing to share, please feel free to leave a comment below.
Finally, Irish or not, let your sweetheart know you have the “luck of the Irish” because they are in your life. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all!
